RFE/RL: 'Famous Russian writer' asks Kyiv for political asylum - Ukraine

Border guard's statement says man's case has been referred to migration authorities

Ukraine says that a "famous Russian writer" and critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin has asked Kyiv to grant him political asylum after arriving at the Ukraine-Belarus border.

Ukraine's State Border Guard Service did not name the writer in its August 21 statement, which said that the man asked for political asylum at passport control at the Novi Yarilovichi crossing on Ukraine's northern border with Belarus.
