The Russian embassy in Ottawa says Moscow considers fresh sanctions an unfriendly act

The Russian authorities reacted to introducing fresh sanctions over Crimea annexation, calling them 'an unfriendly act' and promising a mutual step against Ottawa.

"The Russian part will take this unfriendly step into consideration and will react on the mutual basis," the Russia's embassy in Canada stated on its Twitter page, quoting the Russian ambassador K. Kalinin.

Imposing fresh sanctions over Crimea, Canada acts in an illegitimate and irrational way and draws itself in a vicious circle of confrontation with Russia, the embassy also noted.

As reported previously, the Canadian authorities introduced a new pack of sanctions on Crimean collaborate figures, the country's Global Office reports on Monday reports.

15 additional persons were included in the sanctions list, including six members of Russia's State Duma from Crimea, who are subject to an asset freeze and dealings prohibition, the ministry informs. Fresh restrictions were imposed in order to maintain the necessary pressure on Russia until it fully complies with its international obligations with respect to Ukraine, the statement says.

Also, the Canadian government does not recognise the legitimacy or the outcome of September 18 parliamentary elections held in the occupied Crimean peninsula, as it has never recognised Russia's illegal annexation of Ukraine's Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
