Grad rocket launchers increasingly used by Russia-backed separatist forces in eastern Ukraine
Russia provides Syria with Grad-P multiple launch rocket systems produced on the territory of Komsomolske mine group of Donetsk, a company controlled by Russian-backed separatist forces. That's according to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine's Defence Ministry, Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform reports.
"According to our information, Russia delivers weapons and ammunition into the Syrian territory, including multiple launch rocket systems Grad-P, the production of which is organised on the territory of Komsomolske mine group of Donetsk (on the territory temporarily held by the 'Donetsk People's Republic' illegal militant group)," the Directorate commented.
The intelligence notes that with the assistance of Russian specialists Grad-P rocket launchers are being produced in the town of Komsomolske in Donetsk region. The number of weapons produced is larger than used by militants against the Ukrainian army, meaning weapons could be exported abroad.
Russian-backed separatist forces are constantly accused of shelling Ukrainian positions from Grad systems officially prohibited under the latest Minsk agreement.
