Russia stages live-fire military drills near Ukraine border

The moves mark an escalation in Cold War-era relations between U.S. and Russia

Russia's aggressive actions near its border with Ukraine are continuing.

This week Moscow finished three days of tank live-fire exercises. Dozens of T-72 and T-90A tanks were involved in the drills in the Volgograd region.

In response to Russia's military aggression in the region the US plans to send over 4,000 troops and hundreds of tanks to Eastern Europe by next February. The moves mark an escalation in Cold War-era relations between the two nations.

Meanwhile the security situation in regions of eastern Ukraine occupied by Russian-backed separatist forces continues to deteriorate.
