Russian-backed militants increase number of attacks in eastern Ukraine

Separatist forces fire 40 times on Sunday evening alone

The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 40 times on Sunday evening alone, 39 attacks were recorded in Donetsk region and one in Luhansk region, according to the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) Headquarters.

"After the number of attacks decreased during daytime, the enemy intensified fire on ATO forces after dark until midnight. Forty attacks by the Russian occupation forces were recorded, of them 27 were in the Donetsk sector, 12 in the Mariupol sector and one in the Luhansk sector," the ATO HQ said in an update as of 06:00 Kyiv time on June 13.

Late in the evening, the militants fired mortars on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the town of Avdiivka, and the villages of Leninske and Novhorodske in the Donetsk sector. They also used infantry fighting vehicles and Zu-23-2 anti-aircraft twin-barreled autocannons to shell the Ukrainian fortified positions near the villages of Troyitske, Novhorodske and Luhanske.

In the Mariupol sector, the Russian occupiers fired small arms, heavy machine guns and grenade launchers on the Ukrainian units near the towns of Krasnohorivka and Maryinka, and the villages of Vodiane and Talakivka.

The situation was rather quiet in the Luhansk sector. The enemy fired rocket-propelled grenades only once near the village of Novozvanivka.
