UPDATE: Three Ukrainian soldiers were killed, another six were wounded.

Over the last 24 hours, the Russian-backed separatist forces continued to shell Ukrainian army positions using weapons prohibited under the latest Minsk agreements. They initiated 41 attacks during the last day, says Ukrainian military press centre.

"The hotspot was Donetsk direction, where the militants were firing in the direction of Avdiivka using 82mm and 120mm mortars. At the same time, the criminal militant groups were attacking the Ukrainian defenders using grenade launchers, machine guns and small arms," the press centre's statement reads.

Ukraine's military spokesman Oleksandr Motuzianyk said three Ukrainian soldiers died, and six were wounded in clashes with the Russian-backed separatist forces over the last day.

The Russian-backed separatist forces also violated the ceasefire near the villages of Zaitseve, Opytne, Maryinka, Shyrokyne and Pisky.
