Russian militants launch 47 attacks on Ukrainian troops
UPDATE: One Ukrainian soldier was killed, another five troops were injured overnight in eastern Ukraine
This was announced by Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, a spokesman for Ukraine's presidential administration for military issues.
"In the past 24 hours, one Ukrainian soldier was killed, another five soldiers were wounded in the conflict zone. Ukrainian troops suffered these casualties in the Mariupol direction," said Motuzyanyk at a briefing in Kyiv, on August 9.
STORY: Combined Russian-separatist forces attacked the Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 47 times in the past 24 hours, including 20 times in the Mariupol sector, 16 times in the Donetsk sector and 11 times in the Luhansk sector, according to the military press canter.
In the Mariupol sector, militants used 122mm artillery systems and launched 116 heavy shells to attack the Ukrainian positions near the village of Shyrokyne. Militants also launched more than 170 mines of various calibre to attack the town of Krasnohorivka, and the villages of Shyrokyne, Vodiane and Hnutove. Armed provocations with the use of grenade launchers, machine-guns and small arms continued in the town of Maryinka and the village of Starohnatіvka.
In the Donetsk sector, militants fired 152mm artillery systems on the village of Luhanske. They also resorted to armed provocations with the use of mortars and grenade launchers of various calibre and systems in the area of Troyitske-Verkhniotoretske-Avdiyivka. The enemy fired machine-guns on the Ukrainian positions near the village of Kamianka, as well as used grenade launchers on the village of Maiorsk.
The enemy observed the ceasefire from morning to noon, then they resumed shelling in all directions.
In the Luhansk region, militants launched attacks during the second half of the day. They fired mortars, grenade launchers, machine-guns, and small arms on the Ukrainian positions in the villages of Novozvanivka, Novo-Oleksandrivka and Novotoshkivske. They also opened fire using grenade launchers and small arms in the town of Zolote. Militant sniper was working there.
Combined Russian-separatist forces continue to actively use aerial reconnaissance devices.
