Russian plane entered Estonian airspace without permission or radio response flying over Estonian island
Yesterday at 6:23 PM Russian military aircraft An-72 penetrated into the airspace of Estonia over the island Vaindloo without permission, says Delfi.ee. According to the Staff of the Estonian Defence Forces, the plane spent about minute and a half in the country's airspace.
This time the aircraft transponder was switched on, but no flight plan was submitted, the aircraft did not respond to radio contact with the Estonian air movement service. Foreign Ministry today summoned the Russian ambassador to Estonia handing him a protest note.
For reference, Russian Air Forces (now officially called ‘Air-Cosmic Forces') operate 39 An-72's with different modifications. They are used on transport, patrol or reconnaissance duties.
The previous month, Germans had tested air defences in Latvia as NATO increase in Baltics while Polish fighter jets intercepted Russian aircraft near Krakow.
