Four Ukrainian cities ready to host international music contest in 2017

Sweden's Minister of Culture Alice Bah Kuhnke has offered Ukraine assistance in organising Eurovision Song Contest in 2017. The suggestion was expressed during a meeting between Kuhnke and Ukrainian Culture Minister Yevhen Nyshchuk in Stockholm.

Swedish Minister once more congratulated Ukraine on its victory in May 14 Eurovision finale, where singer Jamala had produced a triumphant performance with her song '1944'.

According to the rules of Eurovision, in 2017 Ukraine will be organising the contest. Four cities have already come forward to host the event, including Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, and Dnipropetrovsk.

Kuhnke said Sweden is ready to cooperate and send its specialists to Ukraine to implement some of its innovation in the contest organisation, which have proved to be effective.

"As a minister, I certainly support museums and theatres, but we also support independent artists and proactive communities on the state level. Even those of them who criticise us," Kuhnke said. "Sometimes it can even concern their survival or conditions for creative work. This support is sometimes very important for them, whereas we as a public agency get the possibility to expand our range of cooperation, and the art becomes even more widespread."

The Swedish Culture Minister also expressed her concerns about the situation in eastern Ukraine and the stepping up in activities of special forces of certain countries aiming to discredit Ukraine.
