Day after escalation in Donbas: Ukrainian forces repulse enemy attacks but suffer new losses

Russian proxies carried out powerful night attacks on so-called Svitlodarsk bulge, using artillery and mortars

Previous day of most fierce attacks of Russian-controlled separatist forces in Donbas cost Ukrainian army two killed and eight wounded soldiers, Presidential Administration spokesperson on ATO issues Oleksandr Motuzyanyk said during his daily briefing. He stressed, that situation in the zone of Anti-Terrorist operation remains tense: though the number of attacks has decreased, Russian proxies still use heavy weapons and armour.

In particular, on the Luhansk direction Russian militants used heavy mortars of 120 mm caliber and 122 mm artillery Novozvanivka. As a result of shelling the school building in the village of Luhanske was damaged.

The most difficult situation appeared at night on the so-called Svitlodarsk bulge on the Donetsk direction. Here Russian occupation forces fired 136 artillery shells and 130 mortar shells, also they used a tank, says Motuzyanyk. In Avdiyivka one of the Russian shells hit the St. Michael's church tower and damaged the bell.

In Mariupol direction Kremlin mercenaries attacked the village of Bohdanivka but the assault was repelled by Ukrainian soldiers, press officer stressed. Also in Azov region occupation forces used artillery, mortars, and armoured personnel carrier.

Earlier today there was an information about night shelling of Maryinka downtown: Ukrainian police release the video of the aftermath.
