A task force of major powers will meet on Thursday as part of Geneva peace
The United Nations is hoping Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement of a pullback of forces in Syria will help all sides reach a peaceful solution to the five-year war. Russian warplanes began leaving Syria on Tuesday.
Ahmad Fawzi, United Nations Spokesman: "The announcement by President Putin on the very day of the beginning of this round of intra-Syrian talks in Geneva is a significant development which we hope will have a positive impact on the negotiations aimed at a political solution of the Syrian conflict and a peaceful political transition in the country."
A humanitarian task force composed of major and regional powers will meet again on Thursday in Geneva.
