U.S. Defence Secretary says he plans to visit Ukraine

U.S. and Europe will maintain a long term partnership with Ukraine in security sector, Ashton Carter hopes 

U.S. Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter says he plans to visit Ukraine and is set to continue their cooperation in the military field.

He also said that he previously met with his Ukrainian counterpart Stepan Poltorak, and intends to develop these contacts, reports the Russian state-owned news agency TASS.

"Their (Ukraine's) Defence Minister (Stepan Poltorak) is a very good professional," said the Pentagon chief. "I cooperate with him a great deal, I met him a few times in Europe and I hope to go there (to Ukraine)."

The minister did not specify the date.

Carter also said the U.S. helps Ukraine train and equip its armed forces under the special program, which is performed in the Yavoriv shooting range (western Ukraine).

According to him, the United States "is also pushing its European allies to ensure they do more in this regard."

"I think that we and Europe will maintain a long term partnership with Ukraine in the field of security", said the American Minister.
