Ukraine agrees with France, Germany to resume Normandy Four talks - Poroshenko

Russia refuses to hold Normandy Format talks at G20 summit, Kremlin says 

Ukraine agreed with France and Germany on resuming the Normandy Format negotiations.

Interfax-Ukraine quoted Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko as saying that during his visit to Mariupol (the Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine), on August 31.

"Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Yeliseyev has just told me that our partners in France and Germany have agreed upon this issue (the 'silence regime' in Donbas which should come into force starting 1 September) as well as they have endorsed the issue of resuming Normandy Format meetings", Poroshenko said.

According to him, French and German authorities will consider inappropriate any other meetings beyond the Normandy Format talks.

"Currently, everyone is expecting what decision Russia will make. This will help start implementing a security component of the Minsk agreements. Hope remains," added Poroshenko.

Earlier, the Kremlin announced it had cancelled a Normandy Four meeting with Merkel and Hollande on Ukraine, which was expected to take place at the G20 summit in China.
