Ukraine in top 20 most militarized states

Report covers 152 states 

Ukraine has been ranked 15th among the 152 states in this year's Global militarization index, published by the Bonn International Center for Conversion Thursday, December 1.

According to the German analysts, Ukraine went up 8 positions from its 23rd place last year.

‘Following the annexation of Crimea by Russia in particular and the continuing conflict in eastern Ukraine, the security situation in Europe has changed. While, for 2015, eastern European states in particular have shown a marked increase in militarization, a similar trend cannot be observed for most western European countries', the report reads.

The first top five militarized states are Israel, Singapore, Armenia, Jordan and Russia. Iceland and Swaziland were ranked as the least militarized states.

The United States is sitting at the 31st place.
