Eastern Ukraine infrastructure and IDPs high on agenda
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and UN Under-Secretary-General, Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Grete Faremo have discussed the issues of humanitarian, social and economic restoration of the Donbas region.
The officials exchanged views on the prospects of increasing UN assistance in reconstructing necessary infrastructure in Donbas and developing the areas in Donets and Luhansk regions which had suffered as the result of Russian aggression.
During the meeting, Poroshenko and Faremo underlined the importance of providing for the internally displaced persons.
Ukrainian President stressed the need for Ukraine to get access to innovated sources of funding, through cooperation with institutional donors, charities, and international business associations, in order to realise social, economic, ecological and humanitarian projects in eastern Ukraine.

These projects include demining, programmes for creating new jobs for the IDPs, new solutions for children's education.
Poroshenko and Faremo agreed to further discuss the question of establishing a new UNOPS office to coordinate UN projects in Ukraine.
UN Under-Secretary-General also congratulated Ukraine with its victory in 2016 Eurovision song contest.
