Pavlo Klimkin on future relations with President-elect Trump, contacts with Democrats
Kyiv is going to hold talks with the team of Donald Trump, discussing a possible meeting between the President-elect and Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said Sunday in an interview with 1+1 Channel.
‘We are going to contact the Trump team about it, when the meeting is going to happen, we will work on whether the meeting will occur before Trump formally becomes President or after, Klimkin said.
The Minister said that at the same time Ukraine is not going to cease contacts with the Democrats, as the country needs support from both parties.
He also addressed claims that some politicians took a short-sighted approach when they actively supported Hillary Clinton, which could damage Trump's stance on Ukraine.
‘When our politicians supported Clinton – it was their political choice. The Foreign Ministry always tries to work with all key political powers. And I emphasize, we need support from both parties', Klimkin added.
On November 8 Donald Trump won the Presidential election, beating the Democratic partiy's nominee Hillary Clinton.
