Ukrainian President approves final law demanded by EU for visa-free travel

Ukrainians still face at least several months of waiting as EU considers visa cancellation

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a law on creating an electronic register of officials' assets.

The move has long been demanded by the EU if Ukraine is to receive visa-free travel to the 28-nation bloc.

But moving freely on the continent is still at least several months away. Much depends on the outcome of talks Poroshenko will hold tomorrow with EU leaders in Brussels.

Should those prove successful, the European Commission will need to recommend to the European Council that visas be cancelled for Ukrainians. The 28 Council members will then have a chance to vote for the proposal on at a session to take place on the 9th and 10th of June.
