UN Security Council is to discuss situation in Crimea

Ukraine calls for urgent consultations concerning Russian allegations 

UN Security Council convenes for an urgent meeting behind the closed doors to discuss growing tensions between Russia and Ukraine. The Ukraine mission to the United Nations requested the consultations. Latest developments in Crimea will be discussed, as well as Russian provocations. 

On August 10, Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Volodymyr Yelchenko has held an urgent briefing on the situation around Crimea after statements declared by Russian security forces and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Yelchenko drew parallels between the current situation and that of August 2008, when Russia invaded Georgia.

It's been a long time since Security Council gathered to discuss Ukrainian question. The last meeting was on April 28th.
