Europe cannot make the decision because of position of several EU states, European Parliament President says
The EU still hasn't approved the quick suspension mechanism of the visa liberalization regime because of the position of several countries, European Parliament President Martin Schulz said Thursday ahead of the EU-Ukraine summit, according to Yevropeyska Pravda.
‘We (the EU Parliament) cannot quicken (the visa liberalization). The EU Parliament is ready, we have prepared everything in the relevant committees on the visa liberalization, and the so called suspension mechanism too. The process is delayed here, in the Council, not in the Parliament. And I hope the EU states will find a solution', Schulz said.
Europe has said Kyiv will get the visa-free travel as soon as the suspension mechanism is introduced. However, the process is not finished over the concerns of some EU states.
Schulz was also asked if the suspension mechanism approval could be delayed till the Presidential election in France.
‘I don't know about it. It's not only about France. As far as I know, Belgium, Italy, Germany and other countries have their concerns. It will not depend on the election in France, but on the capability of EU states to reach an agreement', Schulz answered.
