Putin grants Russian citizenship to Steven Seagal
Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted Russian citizenships to one more celebrity. This time the great honour was given to U.S. actor Steven Seagal.
The 64-year-old Hollywood star has been a regular visitor to Russia in recent years and has accompanied Putin to several martial arts events. Seagal has also been vocally defending the Russian leader's policies, including in Ukraine.
Commenting on the news, Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Seagal "has been insistent for a long time in asking to be granted Russian citizenship," adding that "he is known for his warm feelings to our country and has never made a secret of it."
French actor Gerard Depardieu and U.S. boxer Roy Jones Jr are among other famous foreigners who have been awarded Russian citizenship in recent years.
