Declaring the assets of civil servants was the first step. Now - they have to explain the source of their funds
The President has reacted about cash and luxury items in the e-declarations.
Poroshenko says - he declared absolutely everything, right down to cushions and dinnerware. The President insists - the ongoing battle is not against the rich people, but against thieves who spent years working in the public sector and now boast of villas, cars, and planes.
"Many of the declarants pretended they had lots of cash at home. They thought that it is a null declaration and later they could escape the inspection. But the key point is to summarize what were they doing during the last 25 years. And then - to explain, where did you get that suite from, get all that money from. The people and society have a right to know", - said Petro Poroshenko.
The Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman also calls to punish all those who enriched themselves while working for the state: "Everybody should present an exacting explanation of the source of financing. We should not lump everyone under the same umbrella though, because we have people who had business before coming to power. There is nothing wrong with wealth."
