Another chance to save human lives

It's the second surgery for heart transplantation taking place in Ukraine

A bridge to extensive use of heart transplantation. In Kyiv's Heart Center, a 30-year old lady was given an artificial heart. This is only the second time this kind of surgery has taken place.

The heart which cost over 100,000 EUR had been provided by the German producer on a loan basis. The money is still being collected.

The recipient of an artificial heart can live a couple of years while waiting for a heart donor.

The specialist heart surgeon, Borys Todurov, who implanted the new heart, hopes Ukraine's parliament will adopt a law on heart transplantation providing "a presumed consent." This will allow conducting heart surgery from donors who are not relatives of the patient.
