Bangladesh celebrates Independence Day with colourful ceremony

Bangladesh separated from Pakistan in 1971 following a nine month war of independence

Bangladeshis celebrated the 45th anniversary of their country's independence on Saturday (March 26) with a lavishly colourful ceremony at the Dhaka National Stadium.

Hundreds of people, including school children and members of the police force, took part in the event which showcased national dress and intricate dance routines. The country's Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina stood in the stadium and watched the performance.
