Dnipro(petrovsk) no more - city sign undergoes quick make-over

The name change will only become official after the approval by Ukraine's Parliament

DNIPRO without the PROVSK... One of Ukraine's largest cities is swiftly moving on from its Soviet past.

The decommunization process kicked off on Monday, May 23. The city workers were hard at work starting right at noon but some local residents were not happy with the change. Several even called the authorities asking to protect the old city sign. Patrol police were on scene but didn't intervene in the process.

Although most are celebrating the shorter non-USSR name of Dnipro, the city is still technically Dnipropetrovsk because the Ukrainian Parliament has yet to vote on the approval of the name change.
