Rescuers had to stop working at night fearing the collapse might repeat
The search continues at a landfill in the village of Hrybovychi in Lviv region. At 9 o'clock of local time the rescuers renewed the operation hoping to find the fourth man missing. Oleksandr Butin disappeared on Monday after the landfill at a disposal dump.
In view of severe danger that the collapse may repeat the rescuers were forced to stop searching for the ecologist in the night. At a daybreak the rescue staff hesitated whether to continue the operation, since a new trash avalanche is highly possible. By now the searching operation has recommenced, though combing mainly the bottom of the hill.
The tragedy happened in Hrybovychi village in Lviv region on Monday. Tons of aggregated trash collapsed covering three firemen and ecological activist Oleksandr Butin. Three men were later found dead, Butin is still missing.
Yuriy Marusiak, Head of Coordination Centre: "You see how difficult it is to work here. Garbage conglomerates are enormous, and the atmosphere here is nasty, the air is contaminated with stink."
