Actors fled the city at the start of occupation by Russian-backed separatist forces
Not an ordinary type of theatre. Right under the open skies of Kherson region, in the middle of a small forest there is a theatre stage full of actors...
The Luhansk theatre troop is the highlight of the international theatre festival this year. The troop left the city at the beginning of the Russian-backed separatist occupation two years ago.
This play about love and heartbreak by a famous Ukrainian playwright was in the works over two years ago. But they never got the opportunity to premier it in their native city of Luhansk.
Serhiy Pavliuk, director: "The war... the war... The actors from the Luhansk treatre after the occupation, especially the main ones, left right away".
The troop is now based in Severodonetsk but they have yet to find a permanent theatre.
Yaroslav Hroshev, actor: "We can certainly practice at the building we are at but it is in no shape to show plays at . Essentially we are all over the place now."
The troop has been working steadily for the last eight months in Severodonetsk. Since then they put together ten plays by classic and modern Ukrainian authors. The night in the forest was a first for them. Both actors and audience say this type of is unique and makes them feel the atmosphere of the story much better.
