Lviv scientists protest against budget cuts

This year the Academy of Sciences is set to get 700 million UAH less 

Scientists took to the streets of Lviv in western Ukraine. The demonstrators demand not to decrease the budget financing since the Academy of Sciences faces severe shortage.

This year the institution is set to be cut off at least 700 million hryvnyas. The protesters say there is hardly money left in the salary fund to pay the wages.

Additionally, the Academy of Sciences does not have a single hryvnya to finance research or purchase any new equipment.

Lviv scientists warn it is only the beginning, for they permanently keep in touch with their colleagues from Dnipropetrovs'k, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Kyiv. Thus, in the near future the protests may spread vastly.
