Another Ukrainian city introduces new patrol police reform
On April 16, Ukraine's new Western-style patrol police officers took an oath of allegiance in the city of Zaporizhia. It is reported by the press service of the Chief of the National Police Office in the Zaporizhia region.
According to the report, the swearing ceremony took place on the island of Khortytsya (a national cultural reserve on the Dnipro River). Later today the police officers will begin their patrol duties on streets of the regional centre.
509 police officers were sworn in, including 41 those fighting in the conflict zone in eastern Ukraine and 105 women.
Internal Minister Arsen Avakov and local officials attended the event. Avakov awarded five new policemen, who distinguished themselves in the course of the antiterrorist operation (in the war zone in eastern Ukraine).
The revamp of the police is one of the most visible reforms being undertaken in Ukraine to bring the country closer to European standards and eradicate corruption.
