The death toll in Italy earthquake continues to rise as thousands of rescuers are searching for survivors.

At least 252 people died in a powerful 6.2 magnitude quake that shook the region on Wednesday night.

The quake nearly levelled the towns of Amatrice, Accumoli and Pescara del Tronto in central Italy. Tremors were felt as far away as Rome, more than 100 miles from the quake's epicentre.

Italy's earthquake institute reported 150 aftershocks in the 12 hours following the initial quake, the strongest measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale.

Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on August 24 that there were no Ukrainians among the dead and injured.
