Polish activists to rally in support of Crimean political prisoners

Upcoming event to demonstrate solidarity with jailed Ukrainians in Russia

The activists of the Polish community 'Solidarity with 'Crimean Prisoners' are planning an event in support of Oleh Sentsov, Oleksandr Kolchenko, Hennadiy Afanasyev and Oleksiy Chyrniy who are currently imprisoned in Russia.

The activists are going to sign postcards for the prisoners and create a special album to show solidarity, Radio Svoboda reports.

On August 25, a court in Russia sentenced Ukrainian director Oleh Sentsov to 20 years, and activist Oleksandr Kolchenko to 10 years in prison. The two Crimea residents were found guilty of organising terrorist acts on the peninsula.

Hennadiy Afanasyev, a lawyer and photographer, and historian Oleksiy Chyrniy were also sentenced by to seven years in prison after being convicted of conspiring to commit terrorism in Russia.
