Ceasefire in Donbas: One soldier killed, four wounded

Fighting continues in eastern Ukraine with more than 40 attack on Ukrainian positions in past day

One Ukrainian soldier was killed, another four wounded in the Donbas warzone in the past 24 hours.

The day before two servicemen died and four were wounded. Ukraine's military spokesmen has been reporting this sad news almost on daily basis since the conflict started. Soldiers serving on the frontlines say the ceasefire has always been a myth there. The nights in the conflict region are especially violent, as militant weapons almost never go silent.

Since recently the Russian-backed militants have been widely using the categories of mortars and artillery banned under the Minsk peace agreement.

"In the Donetsk sector, the enemy used 122mm artillery systems to shell our positions in the village of Mykolaivka Druha and 120mm mortars to attack the town of Avdiyivka, and the villages of Zaitseve, Semyhirya, Novoselivka, and Novoselivka Druha," the ATO (Anti-Terrorist Operation) HQ wrote Wednesday morning on Facebook, UNIAN news agency reported.

Ukrainian forces stationed in the town of Krasnohorivka in the Mariupol sector were also shelled by banned 122mm artillery and 120mm mortars.

In total, Russian proxies attacked the Ukrainian side 41 times in the past 24 hours, including 19 attacks in the Donetsk sector, 18 in the Mariupol sector, and four in the Luhansk sector.
