Radio Poland: Last survivor of Sobibór death camp dies

The last survivor of the former Nazi German Sobibór death camp has died in the US at the age of 91

Philip Bialowitz (Filip Białowicz) was taken to the camp, in Nazi German-occupied eastern Poland, as a 16-year-old together with his siblings in 1943.

He took part in an uprising at the camp by prisoners in October that year.

About 300 people escaped, but many were caught and shot by the Germans. Only about 50 of those who managed to get away survived to the end of World War II.

Bialowitz went into hiding after escaping. After the war, he emigrated to the United States. Full story
