Militants continue to use weapons banned under Minsk accords to fire at Ukraine's army
Russian-backed separatist forces initiated 73 attacks on Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine combat zone over the last 24 hours, according to the military press centre of Ukraine.
The town of Avdiivka remains the major hotspot. There, the militants shelled the Ukrainian positions 25 times over the last day, including nine attacks from 120mm and 82mm mortars banned under the latest Minsk agreement.
The Russian-backed separatist forces also fired mortars in the directions of Zaitseve, Novhorodske, Nevelske and Pisky. They also used machineguns, grenade launchers, and small arms near Opytne, Shyrokyne, and Mayorsk.
In the Mariupol sector, the militants' snipers shot at the Ukrainian troops near the town of Maryinka. The Russian-backed separatist forces also used self-propelled artillery systems near the village of Pavlopil.
"During this period, the Ukrainian troops had to fire back 18 times," the press center said.
