The Ukrainian community in Curitiba, Brazil, celebrates 25 years of Ukrainian independence
The party took place in the Ukrainian Memorial in Tingui Park. The community celebrated two important dates at the same time - Ukraine's Independence Day and the 125th anniversary of the first Ukrainian immigration to Brazil.
Hundreds of people gathered to party - with national cuisine, dances, and vyshyvankas - traditional embroidered shirts. More than 30,000 Ukrainians live in Curitiba. The south central region of Parana, where Curitiba is located, is a home to most Ukrainians in the country - 80% of 400,000 of Ukrainians in Brazil. Lots of them live in rural communities, speak Ukrainian and preserve their culture.
