'Brussels attacks are the symbolic act against whole Europe' - expert

Ukrainian military expert discusses weaknesses in European counter-terrorism defence system

On March 22 two explosions hit the capital of the European Union. The terrorist attacks in Brussels claimed lives of few dozen people.

Ukraine Today is joined by Ukrainian military expert Mykhailo Samus to discuss the situation in Europe after Brussel's attacks and reasons behind European Union's unability to confront them.

"The terroristic attack in Brussels is not against Belgium. It is because Brussels is the capital of the European Union. It is symbolic act against whole Europe. They have shown that Europe is not ready to fight terrorism."

"I think, the main purpose of any terrorist attack is to scare people. In modern terms it means to do more informational impact on global society. If you want to do a global informational impact, you need to do attack in symbolic places like Brussels."

"I think that next attacks in Europe are possible, as there is no effective system to fight terrorism in Europe. Being Ukrainian, I'm sure that Ukraine has to create its own anti-terroristic military and defense security system. We need to be ready to confront terrorism."
