Ukrainians among crew of oil tanker detained off Libya

Crew of Temeteron is accused of smuggling

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has confirmed that 5 Ukrainian citizens are a part of crew of the Belize-flagged Temeteron oil tanker, which was detained by Libyan authorities on June 28. Other crew members are Russian and Greek nationals.

The vessel was detained some 11 miles off the coast of the Abu Kamash district, Libyan authorities suspect the crew of smuggling thousands of tons of diesel fuel.

Currently the tanker is in Tripoli port, investigation is underway.

The Ukrainian embassy staff, which due to security reasons is temporarily based in Tunis, is trying to clarify the circumstances of the incident, as well as organize legal and interpreter assistance.
