Water patrol police launched in city of Dnipro

42 police officers will work in a newly created agency

Three boats and two onshore cars of the newly created water patrol police service will guard the rivers of Dnipro, Samara, Oril within the borders of Dnipropetrovsk region. This is according to news agency Hromadske TV Dnipro.

The task of water police will be patrolling the Dnipro river banks and rapid reaction to crimes on water.

"Lately nobody has been fighting with poachers, lawbreakers, golden youth on expensive boats who create a danger driving drunk. Now there are guys who will rebuff such actions. The selection process was about three people competing for each position", the head of Dnipro patrol police Volodymyr Bohonis said.

For the first two weeks of work, the new police have checked 112 people, confiscated 2,500 meters of fishing nets and 13 other means of fishing, given three tickets for driving drunk and confiscated one boat.
