Water police starts working in Kherson

Officers will be responsible for coastal security, ensure safety of water users and fight illegal fishing

Water police starts working in the city of Kherson in southern Ukraine. The officers of the newly established department are expected to maintain and control the security along the Dnipro river, as well as cooperate with ecological service and fishing inspectorate.

The head of the Kherson water police says the first task to fulfil is to establish contacts with the locals. Some residents are said to have already complained about the poachers fishing illegally in the private sector. The police officers came to the Dnipro flood-lands and took out numerous poaching nets.

The current water police staff consists of 21 person, most of them are the former ATO soldiers. The whole procedure of interviewing and hiring the police officers was organized by ex-deputy head of Kherson national police Ihor Kyva.
