Tatiana Navka's photos spark stormy reaction on the internet

Russian former champion figure skater Tatiana Navka, who is the wife of Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov, scandalised the Russian public and internet users with her unexpected outfit.

She posted Instagram photos of her wearing a Ukrainian traditional embroidered shirt (vyshyvanka) and a flower crown decorated with yellow-blue ribbons (the national colours of Ukraine).

One of the suspected reasons for such an 'unusual celebration' is Tatiana Navka's birthplace - a Ukrainian city of Dnipropetrovsk.

Her new look sparked a stormy reaction among the Internet users. Some of them slammed Peskov's wife for donning a Ukrainian folk dress and called it 'a betrayal of Russia', while some of them praised and supported Navka's move.

The photo, which broke the Russian internet, boasts a caption "Happy birthday to you." Navka was accompanied by a popular Russian singer Anna Semenovich and a popular Russian actress Alika Smekhova, who both were wearing flower crowns.

Tatiana Navka did not provide any comments.

In August 2015, Kremlin's spokesperson Dmitry Peskov married Tatiana Navka. The USD 620,000 watch, he wore during the wedding ceremony, sparked an outcry in the media. The watch was reportedly worth four times Peskov's annual salary.

Russian opposition activist Alexey Navalny took to Twitter to question how exactly did the Kremlin spokesman afford such an item. In response, Putin's spokesman was quick to defend himself.

He told Russia's RBC news agency that it was a wedding day gift from his bride - Tatiana Navka. But bloggers were quick to debunk this claim.
