Olga Kharlan wins bronze in women's fencing individual sabre
Ukraine got its second award at Olympics in Rio.
25-year-old Olga Kharlan from the city of Mykolaiv won the bronze medal in women's fencing individual sabre late on Monday, August 8th. She overplayed her counterpart from France Manon Brunet scoring 15:10. Two fencers from Russia, Yana Yegoryan and Sofiya Velikaya, struggled for the golden award with Yegoryan winning the battle.
Having won the bronze medal, Olga Kharlan repeated her achievement at the previous Olympics 2012 in London where she was the third also. The video with Ukrainian fencer beating her French opponent was posted on Facebook account of Ukraine's Minister of Youth and Sport Ihor Zhdanov.
The award of Olga Kharlan is the second medal Ukrainian team has got at the Olympics. Earlier Ukrainian shooter Sergii Kulish won a silver medal in men's 10-metre air rifle. Having scored 206,1 in the final round, he lost to the gold winner, Italy's Niccolo Campriani, and left Russia's Vladimir Maslennikov at the third place.
