Ukraine won the Chess Olympiad medal (update)

The victory in the penultimate round of the Czech team guaranteed a medal for Ukraine

Update: Ukraine won a silver medal in the Chess Olympiad in Baku. In the final 11th round Ukraine defeated Slovenia with a score of 3.5:0.5, and eventually gained 20 points, ranked second among 168 teams, according to Ukrinform. Ukrainian team lost to the US only by additional indicators. Bronze medal goes to Russia, who previously lost duel to Ukrainian team.

Previously Ukraine and the USA managed to break away from major competitors on the penultimate round of Chess Olympiad, Plus Sport reports. Victories of Andriy Volokitin and Pavlo Elyanov with the score 3:1 gave Ukrainian team 18 points. The same score was gained by US team.

Main rivals – Russia and India – have played a draw, scoring 16 and 15 points respectively, and thus lost the chance to compete for gold.
