Bohdan Bondarenko became a medal winner in men's high jump competition

Bondarenko completed two of his first four jumps but was unable to clear 2.36 meters to beat Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim. The Ukrainian athlete's best result is 2.33 meters.

After the competition, Bohdan Bondarenko said he was satisfied with his result. Several days ago, he became ill and had to take antibiotics. "Nevertheless, I tried my best", said Bondarenko.

Canada's Derek Drouin took gold, clearing a height of 2.38 meters. Barshim, in turn, claimed silver causing to miss out on his country's first Olympic gold medal

Bondarenko's silver was Ukraine's second medal of the day. Oleh Vernyaiev also won gold in parallel bars competition. This is his second Olympic medal so far.
