Ukrainian Olympic Team leaving for Rio De Janeiro

Government and sports fans from all over the country are to throw a farewell party in Kyiv to support their athletes 

Ukrainian Olympic Team is leaving for Brazil today, July 23, to participate in the 31st Olympic games in Rio De Janeiro. Sports fans from all over the country will gather this evening in Kyiv to take part in the official farewell ceremony, according to the Cabinet of Ministers.

Ukrainian President, officials, fans and athletes will march through the streets of Kyiv. They are also planning to lay flowers in memory of the Ukrainian soldiers, who died in the conflict zone.

The Olympic games will be held in Rio on August 5-21. Ukrainian authorities expect that its athletes will make it to the top 20 teams in the tournaments.

The Olympic village in Brazil, where the athletes will be staying during the games, has already been decorated accordingly. Ukrainian national colors are displayed on the 18-story building.

Ukraine was ranked 14th in the last summer Olympics that took place in London in 2012. Ukrainian athletes managed to obtain 20 medals in total, six of them were gold.
