Ukrainian tennis player to play in quarter-final

Elina Svitolina is to encounter two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova from Czechia 

One more sensation happened on August 9th. 21-year-old Ukrainian tennis player from Odesa Elina Svitolina unexpectedly kicked out world number one tennis player Serena Williams. U.S. player lost two sets scoring 6-4 and 6-3. Afterwards, she recognised her young Ukrainian opponent was obviously stronger.

In Odesa, Svitolina's hometown, everyone stuck to the TV screen, as their compatriot was beating the world tennis star. Elina started her sports career 15 years ago. By now, the coaches say, she has reached wonderful form and set off to the Olympiad in a very good condition.

Valeriy Bakhchevan, Head of Odesa tennis academy: 

The score Elina made shows her great capacities and became a world star. You know hardly anyone has ever managed to beat Serena Williams.

Now Elina Svitolina is to enter the quarter-final. Her next opponent is two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic. The game was scheduled on August 10th, later postponed in view of heavy rains. Ukrainian and Czech tennis players are set to compete tonight.
