Ukraine's state aircraft manufacturer debuted wide-body plane AN-22 'Antaeus'
Ukrainian state-owned jet manufacturing company 'Antonov' restored the world's first wide-body aircraft AN-22 'Antaeus' originally built back in 1964. The plane made its first flight after an official ceremony at the company's airport.
According to UNIAN news agency the AN-22 was rolled out of the parking shelter of 'Antonov Airlines' prior to taking off to Hostomel, a suburb of Kyiv.
The aircraft's future home is expected to be in Leipzig, Germany. The first vice-president of 'Antonov' Oleksandr Kotsiuba says the plane will likely make frequent commercial flights once in full operation.
"This plane should take a place in our aircraft fleet. There is an order for it already. Now it will perform several test travels, and then the first commercial flight", stated Kotsiuba.
According to Oleksandr Kotsiuba, the AN-22 plane can transport large amount of cargo weighing nearly 60 tons.
"We actively renew our aircraft and want them to fly around the world along with our new products", the first vice-president added.
