First three Ukrainian modernized 'Crocodile' attack helicopters are ready to be transferred to Air Force
SE Konotop Aircraft Repair Plant AVIAKON is ready to transfer three attack helicopters Mi-24PU1 to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, state arms manufacturer UkrOboronProm reports. Modern development of Soviet-era helicopter gunships was performed by the state defense order for the Ukrainian military.
"Mi-24PU1 meets all modern warfare requirements, is equipped with advanced electronics, effective system of protection and powerful weapons. This is the equipment defenders of our country need and the UkrOboronProm continues to supply the armed forces of Ukraine with this type of military equipment," the head of UkrOboronProm" Roman Romanov said.
Corporation report states, that during Mi-24PU1 development special attention was paid to attack helicopters' security enhancing. "Domestic experts have mounted ultramodern protection complex Adros, developed by Scientific Industrial Complex "Progress". This complex misguides missiles with infra-red guidance, enhancing helicopter protection from man-portable air defense systems of ‘Igla' and ‘Stinger' types, and missiles of "air-to-air" type R-60 and R-73," UkrOboronProm specifies.
Attack capabilities of Mi-24PU-1 consist of modernized 30-mm automatic cannon and a variety of missile weapons, including precision anti-tank guided missiles.
The gunship Mi-24PU-1 is empowered with new Ukrainian engines, contributing to speed and maneuverability increase of old ‘Crocodile' (unofficial name of Mi-24). Modern sighting and navigation systems provide a major advance of capabilities of the helicopter, allowing to effectively perform tasks even in complete darkness, report stresses.
"Mi-24PU1, manufactured by SE Konotop Aircraft Repair Plant AVIAKON is the result of effective collective work of enterprises and strategic international cooperation with partners, supplying Ukrainian helicopter with modern electronics," Roman Romanov concluded.
As reported, last week the biggest defence exhibition kicked off in Poland: Ukraine presents 15 enterprises.
